A universal chapter structure creates a cohesive and motivational path for students’ fitness journeys.

  • A reinvigorated design provides a modern and visually stimulating layout featuring many new figures, graphs, informational boxes and photos in each chapter.

  • All exercise prescription principles conform with the most up to date 2021 Guidelines for Exercise Testing and Prescription by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).

  • A new section on Physical Activity and Exercise for People with Disabilities provides valuable insights into working effectively with this client group.

  • The new updates ensure alignment with the 2019 American Heart Association guidelines for proper blood pressure measurement, provide updated data on the substantial health benefits of strength training in reducing premature mortality from cardiovascular disease and cancer, incorporate new research on the effectiveness of popular ultra-short workouts and emphasize the importance of increased daily mobility in preventing cardiovascular mortality, enhancing the overall relevance and depth of the content.

  • Values Focus: Leveraging a focus on personal values, students are asked to create exercise plans around their needs and priorities when choosing exercise types, amounts and frequencies.

  • Academic Fitness: Instructors can select among the largest variety of labs available in a fitness text, each with classroom or homework activities to complete with the text or online using the MindTap learning platform.
