  • Darlene Schnuck

Mrs. Schnuck has been an instructor at Waukesha County Technical College for more than 30 years. During this time, she has seen her students learn all the "pieces" of their accounting knowledge, but never have the chance to put them all together from the start of a company to the completion of the tax return. Based on this need, Mrs. Schnuck has combined her practical and teaching experience to address accounting program outcomes through her capstone project. Do students know what we think they know and can they apply that accounting knowledge to be ready with employable skills? Mrs. Schnuck is passionate about preparing students with accounting, communication and critical-thinking skills for the "real" world. She enjoys family time with her daughters and grandchildren as well as any outdoor activity, with the most recent overnight backpacking part of the John Muir Trail.

  • CAPSTONE APPROACH REQUIRES STUDENTS TO COMPLETE ACTUAL ACCOUNTING TASKS IN A REAL BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT. Students gain invaluable experience as they process financial transactions through the accounting cycle, perform payroll preparation, complete reporting and analysis tasks, and identify internal controls to reduce risk. Students also analyze financial and business information to support planning and decision-making and present results to users, in addition to performing individual tax accounting preparation, reporting, and analysis tasks.
