Master the concepts of physical anthropology with LAB MANUAL AND WORKBOOK FOR PHYSICAL ANTHROPOLOGY! With hands-on lab assignments that help you apply physical anthropology perspectives and techniques to real situations, this lab manual walks you through difficult topics such as genetics and the human genome, primate morphology and behavior, human osteology, evolution, and forensic anthropology. Many photographs, marginal definitions, key terms, helpful hints, exercises, and an extensive index emphasize important topics and make studying easy.

Diane L. France
Diane L. France received her Ph.D. in 1983 from the University of Colorado and was certified in forensic anthropology in 1989 by the American Board of Forensic Anthropology (ABFA). She is currently on the board of directors of the ABFA and also a fellow of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences. Dr. France is the director of the Laboratory for Human Identification at Colorado State University and is the president of NecroSearch, International, a volunteer multidisciplinary team dedicated to helping law enforcement search for clandestine graves and recovering evidence (including human remains) from those crime scenes. Dr. France is well-known from her casting business and as a board-certified forensic anthropologist.

This book invites the student to critically evaluate every topic, and not accept anything on faith. It is important to explain controversial topics in a fair and balanced way but still be responsible to the science behind each concept. The science must be unfolded in a way that leaves few mysteries open to misinterpretation, and that is done in this edition.
-
Photographs and detailed illustrations are more important than wordy descriptions when explaining new concepts to students. This book contains many high quality photographs, which also means that instructors do not have to have as many bones and fossils to help in osteology and evolution sections.
-
Nothing studied as a part of physical/biological anthropology has changed the discipline more than advances in genetics. This book introduces genetically modified organisms (GMOs), gene modification in human stem cells, and discusses the concept of “fossil genes” that can now be detected in the genomes of humans and other organisms. These “fossil genes” are roadmaps in evolution and do much to explain morphological differences and relatedness between species. As genes are studied, we will learn a great deal more about specific evolutionary paths.
-
Paleoanthropology is always on the forefront of advances in physical anthropology, and this book is up to date into 2017. Each human evolution chapter starts with a table that condenses the information about fossils, locations and dates discussed in the chapter to make the information more manageable.
-
More of the problems and samples use real world data and involve real controversies.
-
The many photographs and illustrations make using this book easier than other books that have few illustrations and wordy descriptions. This book provides up-to-date laboratory materials and exercises in a clear and accessible format.
-
When discussing important scientific concepts, it is vital to unfold the elements of those concepts in a clear and stepwise fashion. This book does that.
-
Marginal definitions and a thorough glossary provide students with key terms for understanding concepts and an overall review of the material in the chapters. Helpful hints about complex material are also provided in the margins.
-
Exercises and discussion points at the end of each chapter allow instructors to assess student comprehension and allow students to provide input about interesting and controversial topics. They challenge the student to use logic and science. This also all
-
New tables have been provided in each evolution chapter to provide a summary of the species, locations and dates of fossils discussed in the chapters. This will make it easier for the student and instructor to follow the trends in evolution.
-
This edition incorporates current advances in human evolution and genetics, including controversial topics such as genetically modified organisms, gene modification in humans, and the discovery of Neanderthal genetic material in some modern human populati

Tangible descriptions and exercises help students understanding of human osteology, forensic anthropology, anthropometry, primates, human evolution, and genetics.
