Tomlinson/Boose's CURREN'S MATH FOR MEDS: DOSAGES AND SOLUTIONS, 12e, covers basic math concepts and systems of measurement for dosage calculation. Careful attention to practices encouraging safety in medication preparation, calculation and administration are outlined. Three common methods of dosage calculation are introduced. Examples encourage students to do practice problems using the method they are most comfortable with. Basic to advanced pediatric and intravenous (IV) calculations are addressed. Photos of drug labels, syringes, hundreds of examples, practice problems and summary test questions provide opportunities to practice interpreting labels of medications commonly seen in clinical practice. Examples guide students with information for safe, accurate dosage calculations. Clinical relevance summaries help connect information in the chapter to the clinical setting.

  • Presentation with an organized approach: Medication safety is presented as a foundation for safe practice in the clinical setting. There is a strong focus on reading and interpreting the information on medication labels used in the chapters related to dosage calculation methods. Three commonly used dosage calculation methods are introduced before the student has to apply them to oral and parenteral dosage calculations. The examples encourage students to do practice problems using the method they are most comfortable with. Advanced dosage calculations are found at the end of the book.

  • Multitude of examples, practice problems and end-of-chapter questions: Chapters present several examples of concepts for the student. The student is also presented with several practice problem sets throughout each chapter. At the conclusion of each chapter there are summary tests that integrate all the concepts presented in the chapter, including NCLEX-style questions introduced at the end of several chapters. Labels are used with many of the examples and practice problems so students become familiar with the information and gain confidence using the information as they calculate dosages.

  • Clinical Applications: A multitude of medication labels, syringes and examples expressed in multiple systems of measurement (metric, unit and mEq) used in current clinical settings are used throughout the book. A statement on clinical relevance is included in most chapters to aid the student in identifying the relationship of the content to the clinical setting. The chapters also integrate the importance of clinical judgement and critical-thinking in the practice setting.

  • Clear, Concise Content: Non-threatening explanations without extraneous material, along with a consistent layout instructors and readers want, help make this book a market favorite.

  • Running answers to in-book exercises give immediate feedback: Students are shown all three methods of calculation, examples are solved using the three methods and students are encouraged to find the method that works best for them.

  • Specialized Calculations: Introduction to advanced calculations for IV, heparin, critical care and pediatric dosages, in addition to the most common dosage calculations, prepare readers for success in any health care setting.
