The overarching aim of this text is to support contemporary pre-service teachers in their development as teachers of literacy. A strong focus upon their needs—in understandings, skills and judgements—will also provide ongoing support to them throughout their early career years, as they mature into good teachers who can facilitate good learners. The text commences with an explanatory overview then proceeds through three sections: · Lower Primary (Prep to Year 2) · Middle Primary (Years 3 & 4) · Upper Primary (Years 5 & 6) Within each of these sections, chapters guide users in a sequential way through the characteristics of each age group of learners, initial assessment, talking/listening, reading, writing and finally summative assessment and reporting. MindTap resources for students include knowledge checks, videos, sample lesson plans/activities, scenarios & Your Philosophy of Teaching.
